A native of a small fishing town in Connecticut, Kristen Lessig feels she has returned to her roots here on Anna Maria Island. Kristen’s travels south included living for 12 years in the great city of Richmond, Virginia where she founded a nonprofit organization, Sportable, whose mission creates opportunities for individuals with physical disabilities to participate in sports. In nine years serving as Executive Director, Kristen grew the organization to serve close to 400 athletes by working collaboratively with over 25 partner organizations and building a team of over 250 volunteers.
Kristen’s determination, perseverance, and commitment to improve the community center drive her work every day. Re-engaging with the community and honoring the rich history are at the core of all the efforts to help move the center forward. Kristen sees each conversation with members in the community as an opportunity to learn and grow…relationships are at the heart of any businesses success and Kristen continues to make this her top priority. It is for this reason that you will see her often “running” (or biking) from meeting to meeting… always looking for opportunities to partner and collaborate with other community members.
When not busy around the center—you can find Kristen spending time with her daughter…at the beach watching Florida’s beautiful sunsets.
